— Upstream & Downstream

A resource base built for the long term

Kazprom’s operations span the full value chain — from field exploration in Western Kazakhstan to refined fuel sold through our own network.

Upstream

Exploration & Production

A strategically important sector ensuring stable operation across the whole business — increasing production, expanding our licensing portfolio, and acquiring new production assets.

Downstream

Refining & Marketing

Enhancing competitiveness and providing the bulk of company revenue through technological leadership, product quality, and expanded distribution.

03

— Strategic Priorities

Where we're focused upstream

Alongside strengthening our resource base and stabilizing production levels, our upstream priorities include:

  • Maintaining production at mature fields through highly efficient geological and technical measures and innovative technologies
  • Development of oil fields across Western Kazakhstan
  • Implementation of an extensive exploration program
  • Geological exploration of licensed areas in Western Kazakhstan
  • Study and evaluation of traditional and non-traditional gas resources
  • Acquisition of new licenses in major strategic and promising regions
  • Participation in international oil and gas projects

04

— Research Support

Backed by our own research institute

Our affiliated Research and Design Institute — employing more than 40 candidates and 3 doctors of science — actively supports these priorities with dedicated work on:

  • Prospecting and exploration methods for hydrocarbon deposits in shallow, highly explored conditions
  • Efficient drilling of horizontal wells and sidetracks in complex conditions
  • Wash systems that maximize preservation of reservoir properties
  • Monitoring of oil field development with flood control
  • Prevention and removal of salt-paraffin deposits in pipes and well zones

08 — Downstream Priorities

Where we're focused downstream

  • Further increasing the efficiency of our processing capacity
  • Phasing out vacuum gas oil and fuel oil production
  • Increasing production of high-margin niche products
  • Developing our own and controlled distribution channels across retail and wholesale
  • Rebranding our network of filling stations and improving export logistics
